Accidental Daffodils

I must mention that the title, "Accidental Daffodils," refers to the magical clusters of flower cast offs that appear randomly along the roadside, far from home or garden. Whether they sprout from long-forgotten bulbs in what once was a lovely yard, or were tossed there as refuse, it is always a surprise and a joy to look past the guard rails, over the soda cans and discarded bulk mail to see their yellow heads poking up among the weeds. Perhaps they aren't such an accident after all, but a reminder that there is beauty everywhere, if only the eye chooses to behold.

Self Portraits

As I was creating this blog, I realized I did not have a picture to upload, and no one is home to take it. "Take it yourself," the devil on my shoulder said. Luckily, my good sense prevailed, and I will wait until a picture is taken of me. In the age of Myspace and Facebook, self-portraits have taken on a whole new light and life.
  • "I am bored, so I will take photos of myself."
  • "I look really good from this angle, and no one is here to see it."
  • "It will be cool to have a picture of myself looking in the mirror."
So what's up with that? Vanity at it's best, and desperate efforts to appear in only the choicest of conditions. I just don't get it. I find these types of photos silly and self-absorbed, although I am clearly in the minority. When your family gets home today, check their arm length on their picture taking side. If they have bent and stretched to get a great head shot, perhaps you should enroll them in a hobby....
